Zorro: The Gay Blade [Region 2]

Spain has released a PAL/Region 0 DVD, which will not play on a standard US DVD player. To view it in USA/Canada, you will need a multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player. The DVD includes English and Spanish language options with Dolby Digital Stereo sound, as well as Spanish subtitles. The film is presented in WIDESCREEN (1.78:1) format and includes special features such as filmographies, an interactive menu, and scene access.

The movie, "Zorro, the Gay Blade" is set in 1840s Mexico. When the new Spanish Governor begins oppressing the peasants, wealthy landowner Don Diego Vega (played by George Hamilton) takes on the role of Zorro, a masked vigilante who fights for justice. Meanwhile, Vega's twin brother Ramon, who was raised in the British Royal Navy and is now known as Lt. Bunny Wigglesworth (also played by George Hamilton in a dual role), visits and takes on the role of Zorro in his brother's absence. However, he makes some flamboyant and colorful changes, becoming 'the Gay Blade' with lemon, plum, and scarlet colored suits, and uses a whip as his weapon of choice. He also becomes the liaison between Don Vega and the American activist/feminist Charlotte (played by Lauren Hutton), who has a crush on Zorro.

The film was screened/awarded at the Golden Globes and offers a comedic take on the classic Zorro story, incorporating themes of social justice and activism.
